Leaving Your Pet At Home While You Travel

I love to travel, don’t get me wrong. But I always get really anxious leaving my pet at home. I know I can’t be the only one. It’s a huge deal to make sure you have a good pet sitter, plus making sure you gave them all the information. Like did you remember to tell them that Snowball gets that pill at 7pm now instead of 9pm?

Whenever I’m getting ready for a trip, my dog is one of the first things I like to get squared away. I know how hard and stressful it can be when you don’t know who will be watching them until the last minute. So first, I make sure I can keep his life as consistent as possible. Can he stay at home with someone checking on him or staying there? Great. If not, who can I send him to that will help make sure he’s cared for and loved as much as I would love on him?

Once I have the where and who figured out, comes all the details. The feeding schedule, potty breaks, medications, treats, walking, etc. There’s way more than we realize sometimes and you want to make sure you don’t leave anything out.

This is where I started using a pet care guide. I made an editable document that I use to give the pet sitter all of the information they may need. I developed this for my peace of mind while I’m away. It includes feeding schedules, medication times, emergency numbers, emergency vet locations, and any other random tidbits you might think of. It’s so nice, because once I do this then I just have to look it over and make any quick edits before the start of each trip. No more worrying each time about creating something brand new!

No matter who you leave your pet with, it’s nice knowing you gave them all the information they might need. Pairing this pet guide with my travel planner definitely makes my life easier. Safe travels and happy planning!
